ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit will call the College Football Playoff championship game between Michigan and Washington. Over the years, Herb Streit has built a reputation as a member of ESPN’s “College His Gameday” crew. While fans wait for his analysis of the national championship game, his furry four-legged friend is in the spotlight.
Herb Streit makes it a habit to travel with his dog wherever he goes and to every game. Why does he take his traveling companion everywhere?

Why does Kirk Herbstreit travel with his dog?
Kirk has four dogs, and Ben, a golden retriever, was his best buddy, accompanying him to every NFL and CFB game he attended. This cute four-legged friend first appeared on TV during a “GameDay” preview of the 2021 contest between the Cincinnati Bearcats and Tulsa Golden Hurricane. But in 2023, Ben became Herb Streit’s regular traveling companion.
After Herbstreit’s son, Zach Herbstreit, was hospitalized with a heart condition, he began making regular media appearances with his owner. Zach, who plays as a tight end for Ohio State, is undergoing treatment and has not participated in practice. There, Ben became Kirk’s emotional support dog and traveled with Kirk wherever he went.
And the ESPN analyst doesn’t seem to mind being in the spotlight with his furry friend. Kirk is also a member of “Thursday Night Football,” so Ben also recently received a pat from Aaron Rodgers during the Jets-Browns game in Week 17. He remained in the booth with his owner while the analyst performed his duties.
