After three turbulent years, the Michigan Wolverines football team “Bed” I’m responsible for myself this season and I’m doing it wisely.
The national champion Wolverines returned home Tuesday night to thunderous applause and screaming fans after defeating the Washington Huskies 34-13 on Monday night, the Associated Press reported.
“Thank you so much for coming here.” Coach Jim Harbaugh said. “We had high aspirations and high goals and never lost sight of them.”
Defensive tackle Kris Jenkins also thanked the crowd.
“You have no idea how much we appreciate your love and support from the bottom of our hearts.” Jenkins said. “What did we say when the whole world doubted us, when the whole world didn’t think we could do it? Boom!”
Quarterback JJ McCarthy was greeted with chants like: “Another year!” He asked the junior to return to defend his national title next fall.
“Let me just say this: I don’t know how I can leave you all.” McCarthy said. “Everything about this place that has made it home for me is written here. And I just love each and every one of you with all my heart.”
The University of Michigan was unanimously voted No. 1 in the Associated Press’ final college football poll of the season after the Wolverines defeated Washington to win their first national title in 26 years. The Wolverines received all 61 first-place votes.
All of the disappointing games in the postseason have led this Wolverines team to this moment. It’s a really great day for Wolverine. This team should be forever proud of this accomplishment – and I’m sure the fans will be too.
“(The season) went exactly the way we wanted it to.” Harbaugh told The Associated Press. “It went exactly the way we wanted it to go. (These players) will forever be known as national champions.”
The university plans a formal celebration in Ann Arbor on Saturday. I would like to congratulate the team for winning the championship undefeated. What you have accomplished together is beyond amazing.
