The southeastern North Carolina garden in Willard was recently awarded the prestigious title of Proven Winners Signature Garden.
Proven Winners is a global plant brand introducing industry-leading annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and ornamentals to the market through a network of top breeders.
The designation makes the Pender County facility one of Proven Winners’ 11 most notable facilities in the United States.
What is Southeastern North Carolina Gardens?
The Gardens of Southeast North Carolina is a non-profit botanical garden with over 300 acres in partnership with Johnson Nursery. The gardens also feature nature trails, waterways, and woodland areas. In addition to being a botanical garden, it is also an event space, hosting celebrations, workshops, and events such as the annual Southern Lights Holiday Light Display.

How does this certification benefit gardens in southeastern North Carolina?
“Our mission is ‘Improving Lives by Cultivating Inspiration,'” said Gardens founder David Johnson. “Even one flower can inspire, and we believe the Gardens will be extremely inspirational.”
The goal is to find the best plants for eastern North Carolina.
“With this in mind, we are focusing on the Proven Winner Signature Garden as the perfect place to recognize and showcase the industry’s number one plant brand,” said Johnson. The garden showcases Proven Winners’ annual offerings of annuals, perennials, shrubs and many new cultivars.
When are Southeastern North Carolina gardens open?
The gardens, located at 985 Johnson Nursery Road in Willard, are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
