Jean Jardine, Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator and CAPS Director for the Provo City School District, received the 2024 Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) National Lifetime Achievement Award at the ACTE Awards Gala last November. This is a well-deserved recognition of her lifelong commitment to Career and Technical Education (CTE). Over her 22 years, Jan’s journey has evolved from a full-time teacher of business, marketing, and computing to her current role, which exemplifies innovation and dedication to the CTE industry.
Jean’s statement about her appointment on LinkedIn expresses her gratitude for the opportunities ACTE has provided her throughout her career and is a valuable reflection of her “give more” mindset. . To quote her:
“People I talk to often say they don’t have time to get involved in professional organizations. My answer is always the same: ‘I don’t think they have time to not!’ Be active in this CTE community. By participating, I became a better professional and changed for the better. ”
In addition to the unwavering support of her family, including her supportive husband, eight children, and loving grandchildren, Jan credits the many students, teachers, parents, business partners, and community members who have shaped and influenced her career. I appreciate that. Better. Her genuine gratitude for those who have positively influenced her professional life sets her apart as a successful leader. She is a community creator. She inspires those around her, solves heavy and complex challenges, and builds programs that change students’ lives forever.
As Provo CAPS Director, Jan successfully integrated students into the professional culture and prepared them to solve real-world problems. Her transition from teacher to Provo CAPS Director has led her to innovative teaching approaches that immerse her students in real-world experiences while maintaining the same perspective she had when she was in the classroom. We are demonstrating our efforts.
Jean’s influence extends beyond her role. Her efforts extend to the community as she builds bridges with her local business partners and provides valuable work experience for her students.
The ACTE National Lifetime Achievement Award recognition validated what our district already knew. Jan is an outstanding leader, innovator, and eternal representative of learning in our city. Her ability to accelerate student learning, remove barriers to work-based learning, and foster a culture of growth has made her a beacon of inspiration for our city.
Thank you, Ms. Jan, for all you do for our students, families, educators, and community partners. Also, congratulations on this great achievement.
