An Oakland business owner took matters into his own hands Tuesday morning when he confronted robbers who broke into his store.
“There’s basically no law and order in this town. The criminals are running the show,” said Sam Jebril, who owns a gas station in Montclair.
Jebril installed a steel door and lock to prevent burglars, but earlier in the day they brought in power tools.
“They broke through the lock,” Jebril said. “They had tools to cut locks and got inside. They caused a lot of damage.”
After calling 911 and receiving a busy signal, Jebril drove to his store and attempted to use his truck to thwart the robbery.
“I got in my truck and pushed their car. There was a car parked in front of the store and they came out,” Jebril said.
This prevented the group from taking more items.
This is the sixth business in the area to be hit in the past week, said Daniel Swafford, executive director of the Montclair and Laurel Area Business Association.
“They have this brazen sense that they can do whatever they want at any time,” Swafford said. “And businesses are upset about it.”
“We just need to live safely. We need to live without fear to do business,” said Wahed Al-Saidi, whose car dealership was targeted several months ago. Told.
He said crime in Auckland was completely out of control.
“It’s rising. I can’t believe it. Why is it rising? I don’t know. We just need to find some solutions. We just want to see peace,” Al-Saidi said. Ta.
The High Street petrol station in Jebril was broken into in October last year, when robbers used a car to gain entry and made off with more than $130,000 in cash and merchandise.
He says even if the city doesn’t take action, he will if there’s another burger strike.
“Shoot them,” Jebril said. “I’m fully armed. I’m legally armed. And I promise you, if anyone steps in and tries to do anything, I’m going to kill them, because the city won’t do anything.” We will do something about it. There is no other choice.”
