President’s Research Journal has released its seventh volume, published by the National University Presidents Research Institute. The journal features five of his research papers from scholars across the country, including Marquette University, Colgate University, Seton Hall University, and Boise State University.
“This is probably the most diverse collection of authors we’ve ever published in an issue of the magazine,” said Michael Miller, a higher education professor and editor of the magazine. “The acceptance rate for this issue of the journal was 19%. I was impressed with some of the topics the authors covered.”
Article topics include presidential longevity, the president’s role in student success, leadership during COVID-19, nontraditional presidential pathways, Black women college presidents, and more.
“I was particularly pleased to see research on nontraditional presidents in higher education,” Miller said. “Qualitative research has highlighted an emerging trend for university presidents to come to the position with broad business backgrounds. As the nature of higher education changes and focuses on accountability, this The study did a great job of illustrating how business-oriented the president’s expectations are.”
The journal was first published in 2017 and was founded by President Emeritus G. David Gearhart, who at the time held a faculty position in the Higher Education Graduate Degree Program.
Mr. Miller previously served as dean of the College of Education and Health Professions from 2016 to 2019.
