A used car dealership in Lost Rubber is facing nearly 800 charges after state police say the management failed to maintain proper business records and manage business hours, according to court documents.
The charges were filed against Anden-Oort on Monday. Those include one misdemeanor count on him for failing to keep sales records for the past three years on the spot and hundreds of summary offenses for unprofessional conduct and incompetence.
According to court documents, officers stopped at the dealership on Pine Valley Lane, off Route 51, just before noon on Nov. 29 as part of a routine audit by the Auto Fraud Unit.
Police said there were no salespeople there at the time, violating state law. The person listed as the store’s owner refused to speak with officers, and instead his son, Emery Andeng IV, arrived to deal with the situation.
According to court documents, investigators found that records of car sales from the past three years were not kept on-site as required by law, and that business hours, salesperson certifications and prices were posted everywhere. We received a report from the police that this had not been done. Andeng also failed to provide authorities with documentation regarding employees’ criminal records and temporary tags. Police said none of the 51 vehicles on sale required a buyer’s guide and nearly 50 had unissued license plates that were not secured.
The next day, officers reported finding violations in sales records at another location on Rehoboth Church Road.
A phone number listed for the dealership went unanswered Monday. The company was founded in 2006, according to state records. Police say failure to provide a buyer’s guide could result in a $1,000 fine.
