Liz Ellis has revealed she was ready to walk away from a 30-year career in public life before getting the call from Channel 10 to star in the show. I’m a celebrity…get me out of here! last year.

“I ended my contract with Channel Nine at the end of 2021 and the netball rights left Nine and moved to Fox. So now is the perfect time to take a break and think about what I want to do next. ” she recalls.
“So when I came back from that vacation, I was 50 years old, my hair was gray, I was unemployed, and I thought that was the end of my TV career. So I started Seeking. I registered and looked for jobs in the area I live in. I’m married to a farmer, so I was like, “Okay, let’s just focus on that a little bit.” ”

That’s when Channel 10 contacted Liz to appear as a contestant on the next season. I’m a celebrity – She says she immediately turned it down.
“My daughter was like, ‘I have to do that!’” Why not? ” Liz elaborates. “I said, ‘I’m worried about what other people think of me.’ And she said, ‘Well, you always tell me, ‘You worry about what other people think.’ You don’t have to.’ You teach your kids that lesson, they throw it back at you, and the next thing you know, you’re in the jungle.
“So I realized that 2023 is the year to take risks and do things I wouldn’t normally do to get out of my comfort zone.”

After spending a month in the South African jungle and earning the title ‘Queen of the Jungle’, Liz was approached to host Channel 10’s upcoming reboot of the show. Gladiator.
The sports entertainment series, which first aired in Australia in 1995 and briefly rebroadcast in 2008, features a permanent group of “gladiators” facing off against “challengers” in a series of iconic events. It has been described as a “David vs. Goliath battle.”
“I love sports and my entire broadcasting background is related to sports, so I was immediately intrigued. But it’s funny and silly and I really love having fun,” she says. .
“And to work with Beau. [Ryan] He’s fun, but he’s also very good at his job, and he was the perfect person to hold my hand as I made my debut as a variety show host. So I immediately said, “This is great, let’s try it!” “I thought. ”

Liz said the new season includes several elements to the original series, including the appearance of former gladiator Mark McGaw as a judge, as well as some modern twists. Ta.
“Sometimes it’s silly, sometimes it’s campy and fun, and there’s a lot of humor, but at the heart of it all, it’s still a contest,” she says. “These candidates will be competing against a group of incredibly fit and strong gladiators, and the winning men and women will become the gladiators for the next series, so this is really meaningful.”
“So there were a few things that we really wanted to focus on, and the core of that is athletics. And I hope that me being stupid on the sidelines will help with that.”
Gladiator It will premiere on Monday, January 15th at 7:30pm with a 10th and 10th play.
