The Daily Beast first reported on the fight. According to the news site, Jason Boebert called police after meeting with lawmakers at a restaurant, claiming he was a “victim of domestic violence.” Jason Boebert told The Daily Beast that Lauren Boebert “punched” him in the face several times.
In a statement to the Post, Lauren Boebert denied her ex-husband’s claims and said the incident was another reason she was leaving the district.
“This is a sad situation for everyone that continues to escalate and is another reason for me to move,” she said. “I did not punch Jason in the face and no one was arrested. I will consult with my attorney regarding the false allegations he has made against me and will consider all legal options.”
In a brief phone interview with The Denver Post, Jason Boebert said he called the Silt Police Department on Sunday morning to let them know he did not want to press charges.
Last month, Lauren Boebert announced that she would change her congressional district ahead of a tough re-election race, leaving Colorado’s 3rd District and moving to the 4th. Congressional candidates are not required to live in the district they represent, but Boebert, who was first elected to Congress in 2020, will leave Silt and move to the 4th District next year, saying she will “proudly represent… ” he said. Several other Republican candidates have already announced they will run in the primary for the 4th District seat vacated after Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) announced his retirement.
Boebert’s decision to relocate gives Republicans a strong chance of holding on to the 3rd District in 2022, when Boebert faces Democrat Adam Frisch by just 546 votes. So far, Frisch has raised more than three times as much money as his campaign. Republican incumbents are running for new nominations. Meanwhile, Boebert, a far-right advocate, will now campaign in more conservative parts of the state.
Boebert’s personal life has been in the public eye since she first ran for office. The gun-themed restaurant she and her ex-husband ran in Colorado closed in July 2022. About a year later, she and Jason Boebert divorced.
In October, she received national attention when she and her date were ejected from the musical “Beetlejuice” in Denver for socially disruptive behavior.
