GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – As a medical professional herself, Erika Jensen knew what lifestyle changes she needed to make to become healthier. But finding the motivation and responsibility for her to do it was another story. That is until she enrolled in Aurora Bay Care Medical Her Center’s Lifestyle Management Program.
“It was a roller coaster for years and years…my weight went up and down, up and down,” Jensen recalled. “But there was nothing I could sustain.”
Jensen’s story is common to many people trying to lose weight and become healthier.
“Different diets, different programs, processed foods, calorie counting, points,” she explained. “I’ve been doing so many different things, some healthy, some not so much. A lot of money has been invested in different drugs and different programs, but to no avail. I needed something that would last a lifetime. That’s what I was looking for.”
Jensen said she found that in Aurora Baycare’s lifestyle management program, which recently opened to the public. Participants work with a personal trainer, registered dietitian, and mental health performance consultant to make meaningful lifestyle changes.
“The one-on-one and group settings are what make this program so unique,” Jensen said. “That was what was so appealing to me.”
Lindsay Fenkle, R.D. and nutritionist, says that while eating a healthy diet plays a big role, there’s more to overall health than just what you eat.
“It brings everything together into a realistic routine, akin to a type of wellness coaching,” Fenkel explained of the lifestyle management program. I use my knowledge as a nutritionist to optimize nutrition, hydration, stress reduction, sleep, and exercise to support lifestyle changes that are sustainable and not all-or-nothing. ”
Jensen says the support and camaraderie she found in the lifestyle management program made a difference for her. She’s lost nearly 60 pounds so far, but she’s focused on improving her strength, flexibility, and endurance as motivation to move forward after a four-month lifestyle management program. was the most important, she said.
“I think this period is really important,” Jensen said. “That’s enough time to establish these routines, and then it’s like a springboard for the rest of your life.”
