CHICAGO (WDAM) – University of South Carolina sophomore defender Gracie Falla has been selected to the 24-man roster for the U.S. U-20 Women’s Youth National Team, head coach Tracy Kevins announced Tuesday.
This will be Falla’s first call-up to the U-20 WYNT.
The team’s first training camp of the year will be held from January 15th to 22nd at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
The camp is the first step toward the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, to be held in Colombia in September, and the U.S. qualified for the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic last June. Obtained.
Falla, the 2023 SEC Defender of the Year, was a big part of the Sham defense last season. The sophomore started 20 of 21 games and played the full 90 minutes in 14 games for South Carolina as the youngest member of the back line.
As a defender, Falla scored the game-winning points in back-to-back games against Texas A&M and Georgia. Both goals were the result of set pieces from the corners, with Farah chipping in with his shoulder against the Aggies and perfecting his header against the Bulldogs. Falla’s goals were the first two goals of her career and her first two game wins overall and in conference play.
Falla, who was named to the 2022 SEC All-Freshman Team, earned three conference honors in his first two seasons. Her selection as Defender of the Year is South Carolina’s first since Grace Fisk in 2019.
Falla, a Hattiesburg native, led Sacred Heart Catholic School to three state championships.
