Of the 15 cruises I have been on, Disney Cruise Line is my favorite travel company.
A Disney cruise offers the perfect vacation for adults without children.
From animation classes and private islands to Broadway-style shows, you’ll never run out of things to do.
I have taken over 15 cruises with most of the major cruise lines, but my favorite is Disney Cruise Line. Disney cruises combine the wonder of the theme parks with relaxation and great food for the perfect vacation.
We also like how Disney continues to invest in its cruise lines, including its newest ship, Disney Treasure, which is scheduled to set sail on its maiden voyage in December.
And next year, Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure will set sail for the first time, and the company is also investing $250-400 million in a new island in the Bahamas that I’ve been fortunate enough to visit.
While some may consider Disney Cruise Line to be a kid-friendly company, I took an adults-only vacation there with my sister, mom, friends, and husband and had a fantastic time. Here are some reasons why I think Disney Cruises are a great option for travelers without kids:
You’ll never be bored on a Disney ship.
On most cruises I’ve been on, eating and drinking have been the primary activity. But that’s not the case on a Disney cruise.
Disney ships are known not only for their amazing pools, but also for the variety of activities they offer throughout the day – some of my favorites are the quizzes, mixology classes, panel discussions with Disney animators, animation classes, and more.
The food was by far the best I have had at sea and I always splurge on speciality restaurants.
Food plays a big role in deciding a vacation destination, and I’ve had some of the most delicious meals on board Disney ships. Not only are the meals great, but the restaurants are also themed and have a lot of attention to detail. There are plenty of fine dining options, but also casual snacks like pizza and Disney favorites like Mickey waffles.
Although the main dining rooms are delicious and included in the cruise fare, I always splurge and dine in one of the specialty restaurants, which cost extra.
These fine dining restaurants offer a more intimate experience with highly personalized service and a wider variety of dining options. My favorite is Palo, which is open for both brunch and dinner, where I enjoyed fresh pasta, great wine, and high-quality wagyu beef.
I love themed bars, the drinks are amazingly affordable.
Although Disney doesn’t offer drink packages that include cocktails, the themed bars are worth the splurge.
I really love the inventive cocktail programs and immersive atmospheres, from a Star Wars-themed bar to a Peter Pan-themed speakeasy. Each bar also has its own themed drink, which keeps things exciting.
As a Disney World regular, I was also surprised that drinks were much more affordable on Disney cruises and the prices were consistent across the ships I was on.
For example, my favorite Dole Whip with rum was $9 on the ship, but the exact same thing sold for $14 at Disney World.
There are also many spaces reserved for adults only.
While I spend most of my day at the bustling main pool, where Disney movies and live entertainment are on show, there are plenty of adults-only spaces as well, including a pool area reserved for guests 18 and over.
Some ships have multiple bar areas that are adults only.
The rooms are spacious and practical.
The staterooms on a Disney Cruise were some of the most spacious and practically designed I have ever experienced.
Most staterooms on Disney ships also have bathrooms with separate toilets and showers, which is very useful on a vacation where multiple adults have to get ready at the same time.
There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the Disney magic.
I love Disney ships because they offer so many opportunities to feel like a kid again, like dressing up for a pirate night or meeting your favorite characters.
The shows on board are of Broadway quality.
I love live entertainment, and every Disney ship has at least one Broadway-style production, so I always make sure to check out the quality musicals that are included in the cruise fare, from “Frozen” to “Beauty and the Beast.”
Disney’s private islands are so relaxing.
I’ve been to a few cruise line private islands, but Disney’s is by far my favorite. Castaway Cay in the Bahamas has a laid back vibe and is home to one of my favorite activities: the Castaway 5k. It’s included in the cruise fare and participants get a special race medal.
Disney’s newest island, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, is located near the southern tip of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The beach here blew me away – it was one of the best I’ve experienced on dozens of trips to the Caribbean and Mexico.
Disney Cruise Line is the perfect adults-only vacation and I can’t wait to plan another trip.
As big fans of the parks, Disney Cruise Line takes that magical element and elevates it with fine dining, live entertainment and relaxation at sea to create the perfect adults-only vacation.
Their ships have some of the most exciting and themed lounge options I’ve ever come across, and I love their Broadway-quality productions, too. On board you can spend as much or as little time doing as you like.
