A couple helped rescue a woman who fell down a snowy hill in the Angeles National Forest.
Ally Pan and her friends Sara and Yuni planned their trip at the last minute because Ally had never seen snow before.
“I was very excited because it was my first time seeing snow. We stopped several times along the way because we were making snowmen and little ducks,” Pan said.
The group was having a great time taking photos and building snowmen until things took a turn for the worse.
Pan said that while Yuni was waiting in the car, she got out of the car to take a photo with her friend Sara. Pan turned around and waved at Uni, and when he looked down and behind her, she wasn’t there.
“I was looking at the scenery, but I think I got a little too close,” Pan said. She slipped down the snowy hillside, trying to hold on to everything she could.
Pan said he saw something like a wire sticking out of the snow and was able to grab it and a rock stuck in the snow. At the bottom there were some rocks and some trees.
“Maybe something broke. We were really lucky there was a random wire there,” Pang said. “I kept looking down and looking at the rock, and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s kind of sharp.'”
Pan said he was stuck for about 45 minutes when he noticed that the rock he was holding on to began to peel away and the snow beneath his feet began to melt.
“I thought, ‘This is the worst.’ It was my first time seeing snow and I put myself in danger,” Pan said.
All she could think about at the time, she said, was her cat, her missing cat, and the fact that she tried to send a picture of the snowman to her mother but couldn’t get a signal. Her friends tried to call 911, but they had no signal. Sarah tried to flag down her car, but it wouldn’t stop.
It wasn’t until Uni came out in the middle of the road and waved a flag at the couple. Beatrice and her husband were driving when they discovered Uni.
“I was taking a video of the scenery and suddenly this man appeared in the middle of the road and I was so scared that I was shaking all over,” Beatrice said in a TikTok video.
When the couple immediately went to the scene, they found Pan lying in the snow and unable to climb out of his bed. Beatrice and her husband grabbed a thick yellow rope and threw it so the bread would catch on.
Pan’s friends shouted encouragement and tried to help her calm down and slowly climb the snow-covered hill. “Once this is over, we’ll all have some hot soup and we’ll all be fine, okay?” Yuni yelled at Pan.
Beatrice’s husband and Uni slowly lifted Pan up the hill and were able to reach the top. When she reached the top, her three friends hugged each other and expressed their joy at seeing her safe.
Pan said she found herself hyperventilating and her fingers felt numb for several hours. After getting off the snow, a group of friends went to eat hotpot together.
“It’s okay, you’re safe,” Beatrice said, comforting Pan.
Yuni said to Beatrice, “Thank you for your support,” as she shook her hand and hugged her.
In the TikTok video, Beatriz explains that it’s always a good idea to be prepared and carry equipment such as ropes that can save your life.
Pan commented on Beatrice’s TikTok video, saying, “I was overconfident that the snow was soft, and it crumbled under me. Thank you so much for helping me.”
Pan survived with only a few cuts and bruises and six broken fingernails. She said it might be a long time before she goes out in the snow again.
