AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) – A blizzard warning has been issued for northwest Texas and the Oklahoma Panhandle, as well as Union County, New Mexico, which extends north into southwest Kansas. This alert is effective from 3:00 AM on Monday, January 8, 2024 until 6:00 AM on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

High winds, snowfall and blowing snow are expected to create hazardous conditions for travel from parts of the Panhandle into Kansas and Nebraska into Monday and Tuesday. Winds from the north will be sustained between 30 and 40 mph, with gusts between 55 and 70 mph, leading to possible whiteout conditions with snow and blowing snow.
This will make travel difficult in affected areas and travelers are advised to stay off roads except in emergencies. Blizzard conditions are possible in the northwest Panhandle from 3 a.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Accumulations of 2 to 6 inches of snow are possible. Slippery roads, near-zero visibility, power outages, wind damage, and more can all occur. Traveling in strong winds can be dangerous for all vehicles, especially high-profile vehicles.
