The 2024 Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, July 16, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. It will be the first MLB All-Star Game hosted by the defending World Series champions since 1934. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy will lead the American League team, and Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo will lead the National League team.
The starting fielders for the Midsummer Classic were announced Wednesday night after two rounds of fan voting. Pitchers and reserves will be announced on Sunday, July 7 at 5:30 PM ET.
As expected, Shohei Ohtani won the voting as the National League designated hitter. This will be his fourth consecutive All-Star starter but his first as a member of the National League. He played for the Angels before signing with the Dodgers last offseason.
Ohtani isn’t the only one in the “obvious” category. The Yankees’ Aaron Judge and Juan Soto make up two-thirds of the American League’s outfielders. This will be Judge’s sixth All-Star Game and the 25-year-old Soto’s fourth. Judge and Bryce Harper (more on him later). They won the votes of their respective leagues in the first phase of the process and automatically qualified..
It will be interesting to see what happens with Harper. He won the voting but is currently on the injured list. The team says the injury is relatively minor and will not take long to be on the injured list. He may return and play before the All-Star break, but he may need to be replaced. This will be Harper’s eighth All-Star selection.
Of this starting lineup, Jose Altuve has the most All-Star selections with nine, while Gunnar Henderson, Alec Bohm, Jurickson Profar and Steven Kwann are all first-time All-Stars.
